After buying a 360 you may be kinda reluctant to shell out your hard earned cash on that Xbox Live Gold account. Don't sweat it, there's a free alternative besides the Silver option. XLink Kai is a good looking client that finds games around the world and allows gamers to do what they do best. It currently works with all the major consoles and has just announced its support for the Xbox 360. You’re probably asking yourself how in the world it’s supposed to work. It's a tunneling application, using your Mac or PC to connect your 360 to the internet and get you gaming with other fanatics, whether it be down the street or in another country. And let's not forget chatting, voice communications, private play, and Arena gaming hubs. Using an XTag (not to be confused with a GamerTag), all you need is a PC or Mac, a console, and the client. Did we mention it's also free?
[UPDATE: This alternative service is only compatible with titles that support the SystemLink/LAN function. Luckily XLink Kai has confirmed that PDZ does work, as does Halo 2. Come on, it's free! Thanks, firerock.]

Well, you forgot to mention that it will only support games that use System Link function. Therefore, it's not a true Xbox Live experience that MS is selling. Basically, it fools your XB360 into thinking that it is connect to other system link games locally.

Thank you firerock - we know it's not a true Xbox Live experience, hence "alternative" =D For more specifics please check out the site at http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/.

BTW, the service is fine, but just remember that not all user have the same broadband speed, so there are some slow down here and there. But, free is free, no complaints here. Oh, and only the most popluar system link games are popular for the service. So, don't expect to buy a game and find a gamer to play with immediately. I believe most of Xbox game lobby are pretty empty; maybe it wasn't that popular. X360 might change that. :)
